Santa Barbara County and its North County regions are steeped in a time honored tradition and lifestyle of the Vaquero and cowboy culture. These images represent a ten year project I undertook, portraying the life of the working cowboy on some of the last remaining cattle ranches on California's Central Coast. As more local ranches fold to the needs for modern development and increasing housing of a growing society, I felt a need to document this threatened enterprise. I'd like to extend my gratitude to the following folks for graciously allowing me be a part of their daily life: Jim McKibbin, Rancho San Fernando Rey John McCarty, Hollister Ranch Bill and Gail Giorgi, Nojoqui Falls Ranch Fred Chamberlin, Chamberlin Ranch Brad Lundberg, Bixby Ranch Ralph Lausten, T-Bill Ranch Tomas Blackwell, Sunburst Ranch
